Srinagar, Feb 25:Â The minister for education Sakina Itoo Wednesday said the order regarding Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) issued by the School Education Department (SED) will not be implemented as J&K was not in a hurry to hold such an exam for the in-service teachers. The statement comes two days after the Secretary SED issued an order for holding TET for the in-service teaches while designating JK Board of School Education as the nodal agency to conduct TET within two years. Talking to reporters, Minister for education said that a few months ago, an order was issued by the Supreme Court making it mandatory for teachers to qualify TET to continue their services. "But when we received the case file, we said that for now, let's see where the implementation takes place, in which states, in which UTs, and on what pattern they conduct the exam," Sakina Itoo said. She, however, blamed the former education minister Naeem Akhtar saying he advocated for subjecting teachers to such exams. "The teachers have taught children for 30â35 years and the children they taught are now doctors, engineers, IAS, KAS officers, teachers, professors, or holding other big offices," she said. "And today we are saying that they (teachers) will have to give this test." The minister said she had already decided there was no hurry in holding TET for teachers. "Let us see how this test is conducted outside in other states and what the possibilities are. For now, there is no immediate need For it," she said. She said J&K will hold TET once it is conducted in other states. "Let us see how it is being implemented everywhere, and we will also see that kind of direction from the Honorable Supreme Court, if there is any progress in this, then it will be reviewed. For now, there is no need to do it immediately. And this is what I had ordered earlier as well," she said. Notably, a copy of the order issued by Secretary SED on February 23, 2026, has been also sent to the office of education minister. "I saw it on social media that some discussion regarding TET came to know that some order has also come. But that order is not any order, and there will be no implementation of that order," she said. She said that Supreme Court has already given two years in this matter. "When it is applied all over India and people implement it there, then J&K will implement it at the end," she said. As already reported, SED on Monday decided to go ahead with the TET and designated State School Standards Authority (SSSA)/JKBOSE as the nodal agency for holding the exam of the teachers. As per the order issued by Secretary SED, JKBOSE has been asked to take immediate necessary steps for operationalization of the TET examination framework in accordance with the Action Plan formulated in the meeting convened on October 30 of 2025. "Develop and notify a detailed schedule for conduct of TET. Coordinate with NIC, School Education Department, Higher Education Department, Home Department, and other concerned authorities for logistical, technical and security arrangements," the SED order reads. JKBOSE has been asked to ensure alignment of syllabus and examination standards with the guidelines of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), with suitable contextual modifications. "The Secretary JK BOSE/SSSA shall furnish a comprehensive Action Plan, including timelines and preparatory status, to the School Education Department within shortest possible time," the order reads.

In a statement issued here, Inam Un Nabi said MP Er Rashid had taken up the matter with Union Railway Minister, highlighting that the present alignment affects residential localities including Sherwani Colony, Jetty Khawajabagh and Fatehpora besides adjoining residential colonies and may lead to displacement of families and disruption of community infrastructure. Kupwara, Feb 22: For the young men and women of Tangdhar, ambition has always had to wait for the weather to clear and the ceasefire to hold. Wedged against the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmirâs Karnah sector, the town is defined by its bordersâgeographical, political, and psychological. This week, a small delegation attempted to redraw the last of those lines. A team from Young Indians (Yi), the youth wing of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), traveled to this frontier outpost to scout for what the military calls âhearts and mindsâ but what the industry calls âhuman capital.â Facilitated by the Indian Armyâs Chinar Corps, the visit represented a rare intersection between the corporate world and a conflict zone. The setting was a modest government conference hall. On one side sat local entrepreneurs, students from Government Degree College Tangdhar, and district officialsâAssistant Commissioner Revenue Mumtaz, BDO Muddasir, and Tehsildar Ameen Bhat. On the other were men in blazers who had flown in from the cities, armed with PowerPoint potential and market linkages. The agenda was simple, yet for this valley, revolutionary: How does a village overlooking a militarized border build a business? The answer, the delegates suggested, lies in the very geography that has held it back. The delegation explored models for border tourism, where visitors could walk through history along the LoC. They discussed homestays, where a tourist might wake up to noon chai with a view of the peaks that define the frontier. Cottage industries, they argued, could find a market if the supply chain were de-clogged. âThis isnât just a meeting; itâs a message,â a YI member said. "These kids see the fence every day. We want them to see a future beyond it.â Yi has committed to a sustained program of mentorship and hand-holding, a promise to walk with the local entrepreneurs beyond the initial handshake. For the administration, it was a validation of ground-level work. For the army, it was a soft-power win. But for the youth in the room, it was perhaps the first time they saw the mainstream economy as something that could exist on their side of the mountains. Peerzada Waseem, a local who also met the delegation. âIt was truly a moment of happiness for the people of Tangdhar, especially for the youth, who have been waiting for years for the green light for border tourism, which had been suspended," he said. Waseem said the dreams they had seen years ago, when border tourism was first promoted, were cut short after Operation Sindoor. "The youngsters had just started to see their businesses thrive, as tourism here was boosted and tourists from across the country were coming, giving a push to the local economy. But with this visit, we are hopeful that once again we will host tourists and earn our livelihoods," he said. Mohsin Khan, a student at GDC Tangdhar, said they were used to see the Army for security. "But today, we are grateful to see them as hosts for development. They brought the country to our doorstep," he said. âIt felt like a bridge was built today." For a long time, the youth felt disconnected from the rest of the countryâs progress. "But seeing the Confederation of Indian Industry come all the way here tells us that Viksit Bharat includes us too," he said. Arshid Ahmad, a local, said they have always opened our homes to guests with a cup of salt tea. "Now, the Young Indians delegation is telling us that this hospitality can become our livelihood. We are ready to learn how to turn our traditions into a profession," he said. Notably, the road to Tangdhar is long, often blocked by snow or shut by shelling. But this week, a few travelers made it through, carrying not supplies, but possibilities.

While discussing legislative initiatives, Sheikh Khurshid said he has brought a resolution seeking citizenship and legal status for women and children who returned from Pak and settled in Jammu and Kashmir under the Governmentâs Rehabilitation Policy. The resolution urges both the J&K Government and the Government of India to grant citizenship or appropriate legal status, issue valid domicile and identity documents, and ensure dignity, security and constitutional safeguards for these individuals. Another resolution highlighted by the MLA concerns the termination of government employees in Jammu and Kashmir without issuance of show-cause notices or providing them an opportunity to defend themselves. He said this would help ensure cheaper electricity, strengthen power infrastructure, enhance revenue generation and provide relief to electricity consumers in the Union Territory. Suhail Khan Baramulla, Jan 6: A young aerospace engineer from Sopore in north Kashmirâs Baramulla district is proving that dedication and ambition can propel one to global heights. Munaf-ul-Raquib who holds a B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering, has gained international recognition for his research on black holes and cosmology. Munaf-ul-Raquib revealed that his paper on the thermodynamics of black holes was recently published in the International Journal of Science and Research (IJSR). âAbout a year ago, I conducted research on the gravity of black holes and cosmology, which has now been published in IJSR,â he said. He said that since his research was published in the international journal, he has been receiving opportunities from various countries to participate in research dialogues. Raquib added that in the coming months he is scheduled to participate in international conferences in Paris on April 16 and later in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The Sopore aerospace engineer noted that he is also participating in various conferences across different countries. Speaking about his research, Munaf-ul-Raquib addressed a fundamental paradox in astrophysics: how black holes can appear to violate thermodynamic laws, particularly concerning entropy.âIf we observe a black hole, it seems to contradict thermodynamic principles,â he said. Using the frameworks of Anti-de Sitter space (AdS) and Conformal Field Theory (CFT), Raqeebâs research proposes a theoretical model that reconciles black hole mechanics with thermodynamics. âIn this paper, I have explained how a black hole can function without violating thermodynamic laws,â he said. He described the achievement as both personal and symbolic. âIt is a proud moment for me to represent my state, especially Sopore, on an international platform,â he said. Raqeeb shared that Astrophysics was his childhood dream, and his grandfather encouraged me immensely. "After my grandfather passed away during the Covid-19 pandemic, my parents continued to champion my aspirations. My parents left no stone unturned in helping me pursue my dreams,â he said. He said that his academic path included taking the JEE and later the AME CET entrance exams, through which he secured a seat in aerospace engineering at the Nasik Research Centre. âMy parents not only supported me morally but also created an environment where I could pursue my dreams freely,â he said. He emphasized the role of family in nurturing talent. âJust as my parents supported me, it is the responsibility of all parents to help their children follow their dreams.â âYoung people should avoid wrong practices. They must dream of a beautiful tomorrow but work hard today to make their parents proud,â he further added.

'Results likely to get delayed in absence of Chairman' Jammu, Jan 7: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) on Wednesday said the result of the class 10th examinations will be declared soon after the appointment of the Chairman of the Board. The statement comes amid the uncertainty about the declaration of the results by JKBOSE. In an official handout issued here, JKBOSE has advised students not to pay heed to fake links and websites announcing declaration of class 10 results. "Result of class 10th will be declared within few days soon after the appointment of new Chairman," the statement reads. The JKBOSE has stated that the results of annual examination of class 10 of Kashmir valley and winter zone areas of Jammu Division are almost ready. "But its approval by Result Declaration Committee headed by BOSE Chairman is a pre- requisite before its declaration. In absence of the Chairman the results are likely to get a little delayed," it reads. The JKBOSE officials have advised the students to wait for the formal declaration on the official website of the Board- www.jkbose.nic.in. "Students should not get misled by scamesters and fake narratives circulated by some mischievous elements, whose sole aim is to create confusion in the innocent student community," the statement reads.
Srinagar, Jan 8: Contractual faculty members working in government degree colleges of Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department (HED) have expressed strong resentment over what they term as a glaring disparity in salaries, demanding revision of their pay in line with University Grants Commission (UGC) norms and regularisation of their services. The faculty, many of whom hold PhDs and are qualified through NET, SET and JRF, said they have been denied UGC-recommended pay scales despite discharging academic responsibilities equivalent to their regular counterparts. âHundreds of highly qualified scholars have been pushed into silent suffering. For years, we have been assured that our pay revision is under consideration, but nothing has materialised so far,â said Dr Ishfaq Gowhar, a contractual faculty member. Earlier, Director Colleges J&K had acknowledged the legitimacy of the facultyâs demand, stating that while the issue was genuine, its implementation involved significant financial implications due to the large number of contractual appointments. âWe are aware that they deserve salary enhancement, but the number of contractual faculty is huge and it has financial implications,â he earlier said. Dr Gowhar pointed out that contractual lecturers, who form the backbone of the higher education system, continue to work on a fixed monthly honorarium of Rs 28,000, which has remained unchanged for nearly a decade. âThe irony is that a Class IV employee with a Class 10 qualification draws a salary exceeding Rs 50,000, while doctorate-holding teachers engaged in teaching, mentoring and academic research are paid a fraction of that,â he said. He added that institutions such as SKUAST-K, University of Kashmir and Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) have implemented revised UGC pay scales, but the Higher Education Department has failed to extend similar treatment to its contractual faculty. Dr Gowhar said the demand for âequal work, equal payâ gets prominently featured in election campaigns, raising hopes among contractual teachers. âPromises were made and slogans echoed during elections, but once the process ended, our voices were reduced to silence. Even meeting officials now feels impossible,â he said. He said contractual faculty were not seeking privileges but dignity, fairness and recognition for their service. The faculty appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the Education Minister to intervene and take concrete steps towards addressing their long-pending demands. âThis issue is not merely about salaries. It is about survival, justice and dignity in the classrooms of Jammu and Kashmir,â he said.
Srinagar, Jan 17: Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi on Saturday strongly condemned PDP Chief Mehbooba Muftiâs statement suggesting that if religious places are to be âprofiledâ, the process should start with temples and Hindu priests, instead of mosques and Imams. Inam Un Nabi said AIP was categorically against profiling of any religious place, irrespective of faith or community and such statements only deepen mistrust and polarisation in society. âLet it be Masjids and Imaams or temples and priests, profiling of religious institutions is unacceptable. AIP rejects it completely. Had the issue involved only temples or priests, AIP would have shown the same resentment and protest as we do for Masjids and Imaams,â he said. The AIP spokesperson said faith is a matter of personal conscience and religious belief and it should not be dragged into a culture of surveillance or administrative interference. âWe do not want policing of faith. The role of the administration is to ensure peace and law and order, not to monitor religious identity or religious spaces,â Inam Un Nabi added. He appealed to all political parties to act responsibly and avoid statements that pit one community against another, stressing that Kashmir has a long history of communal harmony which must be protected. âAIP stands for dignity, equality and justice for all. We will oppose any attempt that targets places of worship, whichever religion it belongs to,â he said.
